Writing fuels my soul. I don’t think I’d even mind if I didn’t get anywhere with writing, really - it would be a devastation but at the same time, I’d never give it up.
Please don’t put me on hold…
So where I work is amazing. We support people who care for someone who has a disability or is frail aged. These people - Carers - may care for someone who completely depends on them for everything. Some care for children, some for their mums and dads, some for friends. So every year we put on a kind of ‘fair’ for them to attend where they can be pampered - get massages, reiki, do crafts, meet other carers, see performers and presentations, just generally a really good day out for them where they can take the person they care for without any stress.
We give everyone who attends a ‘goody bag’ and we also have prizes that are raffled. So today my job was to call around and try and find businesses who would donate items (we’re not for profit - any money we do have goes straight to helping Carers!) I knew it wouldn’t be super easy as I did it last year, but oh my gosh, people can be so freaking rude! One lady actually said ‘I can tell you right now - NO.’ and then hung up on me. Gee, thanks for that. What is it about the anonymity of the telephone that lets people think they can be so rude on the phone?!
I made over 40 calls today, and not one person said yes. Sigh. It is massively disheartening but then I found out that we got three donations from some realy really awesome groups (I’ll tell you who after the event!). So there is a little sun shining through the rain! I’ve got more calls to make tomorrow - wish me luck!
I have quite a few really awesome posts to share today, so that brightens my day also. Also I’ve started watching Season 3 of True Blood, gosh this show has a lot of blood. I’m usually really squeemish about blood. It’s like immersement therapy.
